(Sedona, Ariz.) July 15, 2011Scott Foster of Anthem won the 2011 Sedona Open at The Oakcreek Country Club, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. & Jr.-designed course in Sedona on July 14.

Foster, who earned $6,000, won the event in a dramatic four-hole playoff against Chris Satterlee, who shot a final-round 63 to make the playoff. Both men shot 13-under par over the three day, 54-hole event. Satterlee, who resides in Phoenix, earned $3,500. Scottsdale’s Zachary Baker finished third at 12-under and won $2,000, while Jeff Nichols of Mesa, Dave Yarnes of Scottsdale and Brian Hughes of La Quinta, Calif., tied for fourth at 10-under par. They earned $750.

Foster eagled the par 5 524-yard third hole to win the Sedona Open. “Scott and Chris both played outstanding golf,” said Vito Berlingeri, director of marketing for the Southwest Section PGA. “We want to thank everyone at Oakcreek Country Club for providing a great venue. The course was in fantastic shape. Special thanks to TaylorMade Golf and Cliff Castle Casino for sponsoring the event.”

Oak Creek Country Club

After over 40 years of operation, Sedona’s original golf course, The Oakcreek Country Club, remains one of the signature golf experiences in all of Arizona. Oakcreek Country Club has become something rare in the world of leisure golf–a course that combines breathtaking scenery, outstanding course conditions, a truly enjoyable and challenging layout, and affordable membership and daily play rates. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the golf course is routed through mature pine trees that cast shade during the warmer months of the year. The traditional layout showcases sweeping doglegs, generous fairways, challenging greenside bunker complexes, and raised bentgrass greens. The Jones Design team carved a unique gem of a golf course through the high desert and stunning red rocks. During the golfer’s day, views of Sedona’s picturesque red rock formations stand in striking contrast to the lush green of the golf course, which is meticulously kept throughout the year.

The challenge-level of Oakcreek Country Club is high, but the course is truly player-friendly. Designed around Robert Trent Jones’ concept that “every hole should be a hard par, and an easy bogey”, the course calls for precise tee shots, a sharp short game and a steady putter, but allows some room for error for mid-to-high handicap players. The course also plays host to two of the biggest tournaments in Northern Arizona. The Sedona Open, a professional tournament hosting up-and-coming local professionals and former PGA and Champions Tour players, is held in the summer. The Sedona Amateur, hosting non-professional golfers of all handicaps and skill levels, is held in the fall.

Amenities on site include a full-service pro-shop, a large practice area, dining and banquet facilities, and a professional staff ready to cater to their customers, which includes public play, members, tournaments, outings, and weddings. The club also hosts the Sedona School of Golf, offering two-, three-, and five-day golf schools designed around each student’s personal needs. Membership plans at The Oakcreek Country Club are extremely affordable, and members often boast about being part of one of the best golfing deals in Arizona. So if you’re looking for a course to play the next time you visit Sedona, or you’re looking for beautiful yet affordable country club to join, make plans to come and be a part of Sedona’s finest golf experience! Golf Courses in Sedona, Arizona

Known for its red rock formations and stunning scenery, Sedona also offers challenging golf courses, including several that have been honored by GolfWeek Magazine. You’ll find traditional desert golf in Sedona, with lots of bunkering, native areas and little water. However, you’ll also find mountain views on most courses. Golf packages are available at many area resorts. Sedona is located 90 miles north of Phoenix. It is most easily accessed via air travel into Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport and then a two-hour drive on Interstate 17.

Oakcreek Country Club

A partnership between Robert Trent Jones Senior and Junior, the Oakcreek Country Club is a traditional Midwestern-style course with wide fairways and lots of bail out areas, but plenty of challenges. The difference between this course and other layouts by these architects is the stunning scenery. Red rock formations rise up around the course, which winds through the canyon next to the creek. Bunkers are a key component of this course, both in the fairway and around the greens. There are four sets of tees, the longest of which plays 6,824 yards. Sedona Golf Resort

Set amid red-rock formations in the grounds of one of the larger resorts in the area, the Sedona Golf Resort was selected by GolfWeek Magazine as one of America’s Best Places to Play in 2009. A Troon Golf property designed by Gary Panks, water is not a big factor on this course, but there are lots of nasty bunkers, particularly around the par-3 greens. But on the signature par-3 No. 10, forget about the bunkers as you take in the view. There are four sets of tees and the course plays 6,646 from the back tees. Seven Canyons

Three years after this course opened in 2002, it was selected by GolfWeek Magazine as one of America’s 40 Top New Courses. The award was the first of many for this private-equity course designed by Tom Weiskopf. Set in a small valley with red rock formations rising all around, Seven Canyons has large, undulating greens, wide fairways and ample bunkering, but it is the scenery that will take your breath away. Memberships are available and the course offers reciprocal privileges with some private courses. Seven Canyons 755 Golf Club Way Sedona, AZ 86336 866-694-8844
